Getting The Writing Written and Letting Go.

After reading this article I found that me and the writer do the same thing when it comes to reusing words. I'm going to try to not do this in my paper because if I spend to much time on trying to replace a word I will not get to far with my paper. The author says in the article "But, being the procrastinator I am, I have continually delayed this writing, and I don’t have time to continue wondering if there is a suitable noun that could
replace “table.” I want to try to turn this writing into “written.” I want to try to get this job done." Also, what I learned from this article that relates to me is how I'm so good at writing thoughts out in my head, but when its time to put them on paper they do not come out the same.

Living Sources Interviews and Surveys

After reading I learned that you do not need an expert for your paper. Also I learned that when contacting someone personal interviews are preferable. Personal interviews are preferable because as the author said its more natural and you're able to see your surroundings and get more of an inner feeling. Making appointments that are good for particapants is a very good idea.! The key concept is to start early, you never know what may happen.

Blog Reflections

After writing my first Lit. Review I found that i did not do it right, but now I now how to do it. I also learned that it is important to elaborate on your quotes. A research paper needs a Lit. Review section to let readers see others' view points on the topic being discussed and also to show readers the sources that the writer used and the new data the writer found out.In a Lit. Review it's possible for many sources to talk about the same thing. Although a Lit. Review section in a research paper is hard to do, it is a good idea. The research I found fits in with my current knowledge alot, but Im also founding out new things. When i first began this research I had already knew that there was controversy about abortions ,but i didnt know to what extent. When my research paper is finally done I hope to give readers a great insight on others feelings about abortions.

Nov 3 In Class

"But the main problem with quoting arises when writers assume that quotations speak for themselves", Graff (pg 43)  says in the text. I agree with what he is saying because not everyone undertstands one quote the same. Monstsios is telling writers that when you use quotes from others talk about what the quotes means to you and how it ties in to your arguement. Writers sometimes put in quotes that have nothing to do with their topic, while others put too many. A writer can either day too much or too little and to make sure this doesnt happen add just enough quotes and your own words following.

Narrow Downed Question

Question: What are college students in the U.S current society views on abortion?

I am writing my research project about abortions and college students in the U.S views on it. I will focus on the college students belief and the reason they feel the way they do. I am writing for the kids that get aborted. I want my readers to learn about how many abortions there are a year and what abortions can do to one mentally and physically. I hope to learn much more about abortions that I do not know. I want to gain knowledge about how many people have abortions a year and what is the main reason they do it. For my project I plan to get graphs and hopefully interview college students for their opinions. I think that when the further that I get into my project I will learn that many college students have abortions.

Evalution of Research Question

My research project will be about abortions and I think that it does raise other questions. Abortions actually raise ALOT of questions. I have a very strong passion to talk about abortions , eventhough  it is a very touchy subject. I'm interested in talking about abortions because I'm against it and I don't understand how people can go through with it. There is many authoritative information about abortions. This will be a very interesting topic and it will force me to understand others and their reasons for why they had an abortion.  My topic will allow me to collect data like graphs.

Research Question

I cant think of a research question at the moment, but I know that my research will be about abortions. I think I am going to talk about other's views on abortion and how many people have them a year.

The Arguement Within

When i look at this pictutre it says alot with just one glance. This picture was taken in Spokane, Washington , in 2008. I would say that the artist did this picture as a way to get more people to vote for president Obama, therefore the audience was for voters. In this picture there is a little girl who looks like she's goin to President Obama for his helo, while John McCain is nogging him.

Talking Language With Laura

As I sat in class and interviewed Laura, I found out many interesting things about her and her view on language. Laura is from Clinton,IL and is majoring in Biological Science. I found out that Laura has a speech impendiment and its a speech problem. When others hear Laura speak they say that she has an accent and I too thought the same thing. In Laura's house her family just speaks regular English, she says there is no slang spoken in her house, and its "so boring". As a child Laura said she did not really too much care about grammar and proper English, but as she got older she started to care. Language helps others interact with one another and could be good for ones career. I enjoyed interviewing Laura and I found out a lot about her.

Getting Personal

After reading Getting Personal, I learned alot about personal essays and what it takes to write a personal essay. The point of a personal is that you, the writer, are the only person that can get the point you are trying to make across. When writing a personal essay you have to find ways to get the readers attention because you do not want them to say after reading it, "why did I just read this?". As a writer its your responbilty to pick a topic that you do not mind in depth with. I also learned that a personal essay should also make the reader feel comfortable.

What Language Is My Own?

When I am at school , I sometimes speak differently, from when I am at home with my family or with my friends. At school I find myself speaking proper English, but I often catch myself slipping and using un proper English. I was born and raised in Detroit, MI so I've always had a different vocabulary than those in Illinois. I would always say things that even my friends different understand. I soon learned that sometimes I have to adopt to the language around me than using my own.  When I am around my latino friends sometimes I feel the need to only speak spanish, but in school I find myself not wanting to speak my "Detroit Street Language" or "Black English".  The way one talks has alot to do with how others view you.

From Outside In

Question 2

Mellix would use "Black English" at home while arguing with her sibilings and she would use " Standard English" when she was at school and when writing letters. She did not like this doubleness.

Question 4

Mellix parents would correct her when she choose to use un proper english in the house. The power of langauge is very important.  Proper english is able to get one further in life than someone that uses something like, "Black English". There is a time and place where proper english is needed and people should know these places.

Meet Latoya Chandler

In life you always meet one person that will always have a great impact on your life and I was blessed to meet that one person early. My cousin Toya has made a great impact on my life and she inspires me to do my best. Although Toya was my second cousin, she was more like a third big sister. When she walked in the room she would always light it up with her beautiful smile nd great personality. She was a nice, outgoing, and determined person. Everywhere she went she made new friends.I loved being around her and she was one of the few people that I could consider my role model. Toya went through alot growing up, but she didn't let that stop nor define her. After Toya finished high school she went to college in Mississippi. I'll always remember the day she left for college because we both were crying so hard. She did not want to go because she did not want to leave me and my family, but it was time for a new beginning.

My favorite memeory that comes to mind when I think of her is when she went with me on my field trip in elementary school. We were going skating and I knew she would love to go considering how great she was at skating. I can see her now, backwards skating and I can hear her voice. No matter what she was going through she always had a smile on her face and she never wore her emotions. When Toya was diagnosed with brain cancer, she didn't let that stop her. She was determined to keep going, but her battled ended on July 2, 2007 and she was no longer in pain.

Why And When We Speak Spanish In Public

Question 1

Marquez explains that her and her family haven't adopted English as an official family language because of the respect they have for their parents. Also, speaking Spanish is part of their culture and it brings them much comfort.

If I were around the three of them I wouldn't feel as though they were being rude. I have a different view, I guess because I know Spanish and I have Latino friends. If i didn't know Spanish though, I still wouldn't consider it rude. A person speaks their own language for many reasons. It can be that the people they're with knows little to no English or that they more comforter with their own language.

Question 4

Marquez stops speaking Spanish when there is a non-Spanish speaker around. I think that its great gesture. If i were around someone that didn't speak Spanish, I wouldn't speak it because it would not want them to be left out in the conversation. If it were a private conversation that I didn't want them to hear, I would have it at a different time.

This piece is so powerful because the reader is able to understand how language is so important to many people and the things they have to deal with for speaking it.

Whats valuable about this genre is that it's more personal and that many people can relate to it.

Attention Genre

After reading the article by Jordana Hall I learned there are many things that one can do to catch their audiences attention. The flier was a good example of trying to grab someones attention. When you are trying to grab someones attention it is important to have attention grabbers like pictures or even big words. As seen in the book, the flier made the most important facts like who, where, and when in big bold letters so even if the reader didnt want to read the entire flier, they new the main things. Learning to make sure the reader gets the main point is one of many ways to become a great writer.Jordana Hall
s article in the book was of great help.

Reading Genres 8/30 (Emails, Text Messages, and Magazines)

When reading school and non-school related genres there is a difference because sometimes one can be informal while the other is formal. For example, reading emails, text messages, and magazines can all be read differently. A person wouldn't read an email from their professor as they would read a text message from a friends. An email from a professor would be more professional and important. When friends usually text one another they use slang words like 'l.o.l' and they often shorten words like that to 'tht'. Also, emails tend to be more grammatically correct. When reading an magazine, I find myself being more relaxed because the magazine usually has something that interested me. I think that there is always i different type of mood when your doing different things. Sometimes one might not want to email their professor but have to.

Picuture Activity 8/22

Dear Classmate,

Hey, how’s it going? Enclosed with this letter is a picture of me and some friends on Prom Night and I hope you enjoy looking at it. Prom was actually one of the best nights of my life and those people in the picture had a lot to with that. Every time I look at this picture it always puts a smile on my face. I think it puts a smile on my face because when I look at it I see my friends and get a flashback of that night. Moving away for college was hard because I left behind my friends and family, but by looking at this picture I know that they aren’t too far away.

Now, I know you’re probably wondering, “Who are these people?”  If you look at the picture from left to right, you will see me (Rosetta), Savannah, Aisha, Ernyse, Porshia, and Keyonte. In the background there is a beautiful stand that I just loved. Each and every one of us is our own person and I guess that’s why we get along so well. I loved everyone’s dress and in Keynote’s case, vest attire. The different colors of the dresses all combined together, also made the picture beautiful.

I chose to show you this picture because this picture is very important to me. The best way to show the best night of my life and why is through this photo.  In this photo you can tell that everyone is very happy by looking at their smiles. As the quote says “A picture is worth a thousand words”, and I can honestly say that I agree. It’s important to have pictures like this around to show that there will always be better days to come. I keep a copy of this photo on my desk, so when I’m doing work I can just glance up at it. I hope you enjoyed the picture.

Sincerely,

Rosetta Taylor

My First Post!
